Very Old Favourites

I’m going to be daring this week and provide what would now be described as a politically incorrect video but at the time was very funny. It is a song by Charlie Drake, who I consider to have been one of the best UK comic characters I encountered in my youth.

Warning: To Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, this video may contain images of people who have died.

Warning: To UK residents, I have been through the dungeons and found some great relics that I will post over the next few weeks.

  1. Great memories. 8) Thanks for this Don. 😆 ‘My Boomerang Won’t Come Back’ was actually the first record I ever owned.

My Mother gave it one Xmas to play on our new Decca record player. The flip side was a song called ‘Chickens’. I still know all the words to both songs, I only had the one record to listen to. 😉

  2. Hi John,

My first record was actually out of a Mad Magazine. It was called “It’s A Gas” and contained numerous forms of belching.

  3. If you’ve still got that record, it could be worth something Don. I’ve kept a lot of Mad magazines, but I haven’t tried selling them yet, so I’m not sure if they’re valuable or not.

I used to like the cartoonist in Mad who drew people with really big feet. I think his name was Don something? Do you remember him?

  4. Don Martin rings a bell. I think his cartoons were funnier than the storyline. Unfortunately, the original recording of “It’s A Gas” has disappeared from my collection, but you can check it out here, including a picture of the original cardboard record.
